Wow! What defensiveness! I am a RN also, and I must say that I totally disagree with your sentiment that Dr. Pezzi's website is an attack on nurses and the nursing profession. I have worked in the profession for over 14 years, and can honestly say that there are good nurses and others who I am surprised have not yet been fired because of their poor judgment -- but because there is a shortage, some things are overlooked until it boils over. The same thing can be said about doctors and others in the health professions. It would be unrealistic to suggest that all nurses are wonderful just because they are nurses, any more than doctors are all the same. People are people. Doctors do depend on us to be the eyes and ears for them, and yes they are not always appreciative of our work. ¶ I for one would not want the responsibility that a doctor has. Yes, I can say that it will most likely be the nurse or aide who takes the vitals, but it also is not the nurse who is making the life or death decision in the end . . . and who is responsible for ALL of the patients, whatever the number may be. I used to have the same attitude towards doctors that they probably had it easier than I did, but my thinking has changed with time. Does it sound like I am trying to be attacking as well in my comments? I hope not, because I am just trying to point out a few things in order to balance out this discussion. I think you are not being fair to Dr. Pezzi with your rude posting, nor will that help the nursing shortage as well with comments such as those.
